FST, GMP, and HACCP Training with DOST - CALABARZON

Calatagan, Batangas, May 29, 2025 — E. Zobel Foundation, Inc. held a two-day seminar and workshop on Food Safety Training (FST), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system to various livelihood organizations in Calatagan, Batangas such as SIGLA CFPF, Kuyog SLP Association for Brgy. 1, and Bucal SLP Association, and was facilitated by the Department of Science and Technology - CALABARZON at the Enrique Zobel Technical Center, Brgy. Gulod, Calatagan, Batangas.

These programs were conducted to educate and capacitate our workforce in the food industry in proper handling of food and ensure the quality of food products. Unsafe food handling practices can lead to the spread of harmful bacteria, such as E. coli, norovirus, and salmonella. These can cause severe illnesses such as bacillus cereus, botulism, hepatitis A, among others.

FST protects the customers from health risks. Ensuring that all staff members who handle food receive proper food safety training is crucial in safeguarding customers from the perils of foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, and other health hazards that arise from consuming contaminated food.

GMP refers to practices that food manufacturers, processors, and packagers should take as proactive steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure, and effective. Implementing GMP is an essential step towards ensuring the safety and quality of food products. GMP provides guidelines and procedures for all aspects of food production, including food products’ production, processing, packaging, and storage. GMP prevents errors that cannot be eliminated through quality control of the finished product.

Lastly, HACCP system is specifically designed to identify and manage potential hazards that may arise during the food production process. The HACCP approach focuses on preventing food safety issues by closely monitoring and controlling 'critical control points' (CCP) at each stage of the production process.

"Thank you to the E. Zobel Foundation because we learned a lot from this training that we can use in our work." - Mercy Pagkaliwangan, Participant FROM SIGLA CFPF

Providing these comprehensive training can ensure that customers can consume food with confidence, and secure in the knowledge that their health is prioritized and well-being above all else.

The E. Zobel Foundation, Inc. would like to thank DOST - CALABARZON for its continuous support on programs that benefit individuals and communities in Calatagan, Batangas.
