E. Zobel Foundation and DOST Launch Science & Tech Advancement in Junior and Senior High Schools in Batangas

Calatagan, Batangas – November 26, 2025 – The E. Zobel Foundation, Inc. (EZF), in a significant partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), successfully initiated a pivotal program to enhance science education in Batangas.

The same program was also held in Lobo, Batangas on November 13, 2025, and in Laurel Batangas on November 24, 2025.

VISSER is a science kit that allows students to conduct over 50 science experiments in the fi elds of biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. A handheld device, the its hardware consists of analog and digital sensors that act as a central hub to which different sensors can be connected and controlled to perform various science experiments. Its software includes data storage, control, interface, and analysis tools for the users.

Meanwhile, STARBOOKS, or the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS, was launched in 2011 to serve as a free stand-alone supplemental tool for research, teaching, and learning needs of users even without the internet. Through the STARBOOKS Program, Filipinos can have access to science, technology, and innovation (STI) information for their research needs or simply to satisfy their curious minds. STARBOOKS contains hundreds of thousands of digitized science and technology resources in text, audio, and video formats housed in specially designed “pods.” This digital library is also intended to be highly transportable to reach the furthest locations in the Philippines including the off-grid sites, conflict areas, and the remotest indigenous communities.

The program was a momentous event for Calatagan as these technologies will be beneficial not just for the students under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, but also with other students who are taking other strands.

The program consisted of MOA Signing that signifies its strong commitment to education, witnessed by the members of the local government unit of Calatagan, Batangas, and the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Batangas Province.

The schools who benefitted these technologies are:
