FOOD SHARE PROGRAM

The Rotary Club of Makati, through Kabisig ng Kalahi, Inc., in collaboration with the E. Zobel Foundation, DSWD IV-A, MSWDO, and LGU Calatagan, sponsored 30 families in Barangay Bagong Silang for the Food Share Program. This program, which was launched last September 16, 2022, seeks to prevent hunger that immediately followed the economic slowdown caused by the pandemic. It did this by providing a rice ration of 20 kilograms per family every other month for a period of six months.

The initiative also intends to reduce food insecurity and enhance nutritional intake in families with pregnant or breastfeeding mothers by establishing a community garden with the assistance of local partner agencies to teach program beneficiaries in seed culture, planting, and improved harvesting practices. To help them get started, the barangay has also provided a section of a lot to be cultivated. We hope that at the end of this six-month program, we will have created community members who will contribute towards a more resilient food system.
